Mehedi Hasan Miraz has been appointed as the captain of the Bangladesh ODI team. The all-rounder will start his new role with the Sri Lanka tour. Bangladesh lost all four ODIs in Miraz’s captaincy.
Bangladesh is walking the path of three captains in three formats of international cricket for the first time. Nazmul Hossain Shanto will lead BD in Tests, Miraz in ODIs and Liton Das in T20Is.
Earlier, Mominul Haque led Bangladesh in Tests, Tamim Iqbal in ODIs and Mahmudullah Riyad in T20Is as an acting captain. Miraz served as Nazmul Shanto’s deputy in the ICC Champions Trophy last February.
Miraz has been given the responsibility for a year. He is currently the most successful all-rounder in the Bangladesh national team. Although he is ranked number two in Tests, and ranked number four in the ODI all-rounder rankings.
BCB said by a press release- ‘Mehedi Hasan Miraz’s consistent performance with the bat and ball, his fighting and inspiring ability to the team, his vibrant presence on and off the field – the board has considered him suitable to lead the ODIs at this time of transition. The board hopes that his temperament and maturity will take Bangladesh forward in this edition.’
